Frequently Asked Questions

How would I know if one of the ink cartridges on my Brother MFC-J280W is running out of ink?

The Brother MFC-J280W is equipped with an ink dot counter, which automatically monitors the level of ink in each cartridge. When one of the cartridges is running out of ink, an error message will appear on your printer screen.

Is it a good idea to replace the ink cartridge even if it still has a small amount of ink left in the cartridge?

Yes. It is necessary to replace the cartridge without waiting for it to get totally depleted to prevent air from drying out and damaging the printhead assembly.

What to do if I started printing with a new cartridge installed in the wrong slot?

Remove the new cartridge first. Then, clean the print head several times to remove any trace of ink from the new cartridge. Once done, reinstall the new cartridge in the correct slot.
