Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Brother MFC-J245 not printing black even if I just installed a new black ink cartridge?

One likely reason why your Brother MFC-J245 is not printing black is that you’ve probably failed to remove the shipping tape on the newly installed cartridge. Try removing the cartridge and check if the shipping tape is still intact. If yes, remove it before inserting it back into the printer.

How do I check the amount of ink that is left in the cartridge on my Brother printer?

To check the ink level, press Menu, 1, and 3. The LCD will then show the ink status. Press a or b to choose the color you want to check. And then, press Stop/Exit.

I got a ‘Cannot Detect’ error message after installing a new cartridge—why is that so?

A ‘Cannot Detect’ error message could mean that the new cartridge was not properly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinstall it properly.
