How to Replace Cartridge(s)

1. Turn on your Brother MFC J5520DW printer and open the ink cartridge cover on the front right bottom.
2. Push down on the lever of the cartridge you want to replace and remove it from its slot.
3. Take the new cartridge out of its wrapper and remove the plastic tape. Do not touch the contacts or ink nozzles.
4. Insert the new cartridge into the correct slot. The lever will snap up when the cartridge is in place.
5. Close the ink cartridge cover. The printer will clean for about four minutes and print an ink quality check sheet.
6. Check the print quality and follow the instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it mean that the ink cartridge is defective if I get a ‘Cannot Detect’ error message after installing a new cartridge on my Brother MFC-J5520DW printer?

We doubt it. It could possibly mean that the cartridge is installed way too quickly, with the sealing tape still intact. Or the cartridge is installed incorrectly, so the printer does not recognize it. Try removing the new cartridge from the printer. Then, check if the sealing tape is still on. If yes, remove it before inserting it back.

What to do if the product that I received is defective or incorrect?

If you received an incorrect or a defective cartridge, obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number first by contacting our Customer Service Department. We will then send you a replacement cartridge once you have an RMA number. Just make sure you return the item within a year of purchase.
